Let’s start

How to find the List of Medi-Cal Therapists

Therapists that accept Medi-Cal in San Diego County

Your Mental Health Plan (MHP) is an important source of all the information needed in case of emergency. There are four Health Plan providers in San Diego County which are Community Health Group Partnership plan, Blue Shield of California promise health plan, Kaiser Permanente, and Molina Healthcare.

As I said Your Mental Health Plan is an important source of information so You can directly call Your plan and ask for directory of providers in Your area. This directory is also called as “Provider List”.

This list contains all the required information about Doctors, Therapists, Dentists, Hospitals, Clinics, and other places where You can access the required facilities.

You simply need to call the MHP access and Crisis line to request a provider directory and ask for referral too.

Important Contact Numbers

Here are some important contact numbers which You can use anytime in the case of emergency.

Access and Crisis line (San Diego MHP) – (888) 724-7240

Inpatient Mental health Services – (800) 479-2233

Outpatient Mental Health Services – (877) 734-3258

You can also call the emergency number 911.

Process of Accessing Mental Health Services

Once You have called the MHP and Crisis line, they’ll appoint a Mental Health professional to assess Your condition. The professional will prepare a report on the basis of his/ her findings and will submit to Your MHP. Then MHP will need an approval from Your Medi-Cal provider to provide Mental Health services on the basis of the report.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some FAQs which often asked by Medi-Cal members. I have covered all the important questions here.

What does it mean to be “Authorized” to receive Mental Health Services?

You may need to request Your provider for approval before the Mental Health services are provided by MHP. The MHP will not initiate any services before the final approval is arrived because there is an involvement of three parties in the whole process which are MHP, Patient, and Provider. Once You get approval from Your provider the status will show “Authorized”.

What if I want to change Therapists, Doctors, or Clinics?

You can call the MHP access and crisis line to request a change if accessing services from an individual therapists or doctors. If it is a Clinic then ask for an appointment with another provider in the same clinic.

Does San Diego County keep my Mental Health Records Private?

Yes, San Diego County keeps Mental Health Records Private and it is applicable to all the patients. There are some exception like in case You give written permission or a court orders to access it.

Final Remarks

I went through all the information provided by the County Mental Health Services but found only credible method to access an updated list of Medi-Cal Therapists in San Diego County is to Call MHP access and Crisis line to get an updated list of Medi-Cal Providers list in Your area.
